Review Requirements

We want you — through your education — to fulfil your personal and professional potential and have a significant and positive effect on your local and global community.

Use the questions below as a checklist and you'll be ready to apply.

What is your most recent curriculum?

Your admission requirements depend on your educational journey so far. We'll look at your overall performance depending on where and how long you have studied. We call this your basis of admission – it’s what we use to decide whether we admit you to Western.

Choose the option that best applies to you to find out what we need.

Ontario High School Student

You're in your final year of high school in Ontario and applying to your first year at Western.

Canadian High School Student

You're in your final year of high school in a Canadian province other than Ontario and applying to your first year at Western.

International High School Student

You're in your final year of high school outside of Canada and applying to Western.

Homeschool

You are finishing your secondary school studies as a homeschool student.

Transfer Student

You're in college or university and hoping to transfer to Western.

Readmission

You were a Western student and would like to start again.

Mature or Senior

You have been out of school for a long time and would like to restart.

Already Completed an Undergraduate Degree

You already have an undergraduate degree and want to start another one.

What program are you applying to?

Some programs need more information to make an admission decision.

Course Requirements

Different programs require different preparation in order to be successful. You'll need to know some math and science to be prepared for engineering, for example.

We will look for these specific courses in your transcripts and include them in our admission evaluation.

Supplemental Requirements

Other programs need to know more about you outside of academics — we call these supplemental requirements or forms (supps for short!).

For example, you'll need an audition to study in some of our music programs, and others require personal statements or a portfolio showcasing your talents.

It is your responsibility to know if a program requires a supplemental form, so make sure you make a note for yourself and submit by the deadline.

When are your deadlines?

Your deadline to apply and submit all required documents or supplemental forms depends on where you live and the program you are applying to.

Is English your first language?

We want to make sure you can succeed in courses taught in English. If English isn’t your first language, you will need to submit proof of English language proficiency.

Western accepts all the major English language tests like TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo. Make sure you meet the minimum scores and send us your test by the recommended date.

Are your grades reflective of your potential?

We acknowledge and recognize that not all students have had the same access, supports and opportunities on their way to university. This is why we are committed to equitable and accessible admissions pathways for applicants from all backgrounds.

If you feel that your academic background is not representative of your academic potential, we still want you to apply.

How do we make a decision?

Our typical first year class has an entering average of around 88% (A). This is an average, which means some students are above and some students are below.

While your academic average is an important metric, we also want to see consistent performance in your courses and that you are strong in the required courses for the program you applied to.
